Yes, it’s about sparkly vampires and werewolves fighting over a girl. Yes, normal vampires don’t sparkle..I get it. As a Twilight fan, I’ve heard it all.
Why do Harry Potter fans and Hunger Games fans, etc, bash on it so much? It’s a different genre, so it’s not like it’s competing with HP. That would be a bit different.
It’s the haters of the saga that make Twilight fans embarassed to be Twilight fans. And the books are so much better than the movies. And give it a chance before you hate and call it gay. It’s not gay.
We all have different intrests, deal with it and accept me for who I am instead of judging me for what I like.
Oh, and for the record, I am a Hunger Games fan too.

You’re right… it’s not gay… it’s paedophilia.

People wouldn’t hate it so much if it wasn’t so problematic against women’s rights and the whole pedophilia issue.

Don’t forget the abusive relationship part.

Yes, OP has rather missed the point. Sparkly vampires are inherently silly, sure, but that’s not the problem. I like a lot of silly things myself! You want to read about a sparkly vampire love story, I won’t stop you.
My problem with Twilight, and why I (and a whole lot of other people) ‘hate on it’ is the sexism, racism, glorification of abusive relationships, thinly veiled religious propaganda, highly questionable morality on the part of the protagonists, constant undermining of women’s rights, worrying subtext on vital and complex issues such as rape and abortion, and the fact that all this shit is aimed at pre-teen girls.
The fact that there might be young people growing up today who think that removing your girlfriend’s car engine so that she can’t visit her friend is a romantic gesture, scares me.
The fact that a guy falls in love with a baby and then grooms her throughout infancy to love him, even giving her a ‘promise ring’ when she is still a child and this is seen as a healthy relationship, scares me.
The fact that at one point two of the male ‘heroes’ have a conversation about forcibly knocking a girl out with drugs and aborting her baby without her consent, scares me.
The fact that this series of books is so popular really fucking scares me. As someone who has read all of them, I have nothing but anger and contempt for the series. So no, I won’t ‘judge you for what you like’. I will however, continue judging the shit out of these books, and I will not stop openly speaking out about how terrible and damaging they are.

^^^
Everything and this comment above, and emphasizing that the actual literary quality of these books is horrendous. And I am allowed to say that because I’ve read one just to really see Meyer’s style… and it’s atrocious.

Harry, Ron and Hermione are truly family now. I think it’s perfect that they’ve been brought even closer together through Ron and Ginny. But in my opinion, it’s particularly special for Harry, because the Weasleys were the closest thing he had to a real family since age eleven.

Lol, you’ve used the album cover I edited for my fanmix…. But I suppose it’s okay, it’s nothing special. And it’s for good cause. Though I don’t like to think about it that way. Sure, the getting to be part of the Weasley family is a nice bonus for Harry but it’s definitely not why he fell in love with Ginny.
He fell in love with her because she’s an exceptional woman and he can’t help it. Their love is as powerful as a force of nature ~

People seem to hate her because she was a “useless” and “pointless” character, and all she ever did was cry her eyes out during her sixth year. To me, it seems like they only hate her because she’s a normal teenage girl who is extremely emotional and experiences the raging hormones every teenager experiences. Think about it: How many of you were emotional throughout middle school and high school? How many times did you end up crying because your crush didn’t like you back or because you were receiving an overwhelming amount of homework at school? I know I cried a few times because of the stress I got from school. Look at what Cho Chang was crying about. The death of her boyfriend. The mixed feelings she had for Harry (and I’m not just talking about Cedric versus Harry but also, whether or not she should believe Harry about Voldemort and that whole deal). The death of her boyfriend. Probably a bunch of other shit she got from her parents and I bet you anything, she was also crying about the stress she got from school. Oh, did I mention she was crying over her DEAD BOYFRIEND? Get a grip, you guys. She cried about normal things and she had every right to.
And to say she was pointless character is also ridiculous. Granted, she wasn’t a major character nor was she one of the stronger female characters like Hermione or Luna. But you know what she was? She was Harry’s first shot at kissing, at relationships, at the whole romance deal. To me, she made Harry’s life a bit more like a normal teenager’s life. No, she’s not my favorite character but she’s someone I could never hate. I feel bad for her all the time because of what she had to go through and I feel even more bad because of the people who find it necessary to hate her and make fun of her for being emotional, for being HUMAN. I don’t mind if you don’t like her but some people just go a little far with the hate and it’s really quite bothersome and uncalled for.

HOLY THIS

Oh yes! I mean, her and Harry’s relationship was really awkward but that’s quite normal. I’m still immensely grateful that Ginny wasn’t Harry’s first crush, snog and love. She’s definitely not my favourite character but she was an important addition to the story, Harry’s story.

And I hate even more how even I am sometimes guilty of this. When reading the books, shipping is the furthest thing in my mind. But at least I don’t take part in stupid shipping wars. JUST READ AND ENJOY, you know, there are other things in the books than coupling up and romance and snogging.

I quite agree!
‘There’s no need to call me sir, Professor.’
‘Wow, I wonder what it’d be like to have a difficult life?’
[‘Listening to the news! Again?’] ‘Well, it changes every day, you see.’
‘Yeah, Quirrell was a great teacher. There was just that minor drawback of him having Lord Voldemort sticking out the back of his head!’
‘Have you ever let it slip that you’d like to go out in public with the words My Sweetheart round your neck?’
‘This is night, Diddykins. That’s what we call it when it goes all dark like this.’

THIS IS WHY HE’S MY FUCKING FAVORITE

Harry<333 Of course Ron has an even greater sense of humour but Harry is totally underappreciated. I love him.
